Glass painting techniques, using powdered and granular glass, enamels, silver stain and other inclusions can be used to make elements of an image across several layers of glass. These components can then be combined with further layers of glass to make heavy blocks of glass with the combined image trapped deep within the glass. The result is immense depth and intensity of colour to stunning effect. Many layers of glass can be used to give a great thickness of glass, 40mm is easily acheivable, which makes a very attractive piece.
I have made several fish which can be seen below, which are an obvious natural subject given the intense colours and ability to portray the depth of water. These pieces are usually around 300mm x 150mm and 25mm thick. These cost from £225 each.
