Pictish Burghead Bull

This Pictish Bull is my interpretation of the wonderful animal engravings to be found carved on rocks at the Burghead Pictish Fort on the Moray Coast. A large number of carvings of of Bulls have been found around Burghead Fort, some of which still exist today, they appear to have been used as some form of boundary marker of talisman for the fort and its people. The Burghead Picts obviously saw the Bulls as powerful mystical animals given the strong shapes used and the enigmatic scroll work decorating their bodies. I have reworked the carved original line image into three dimensions and then added strong colours to further enhance the powerful impact.

The Bull is a solid glass casting made from a coloured pate de verre skin filled will clear glass, this ensures the colours ring out all over the piece and that it maintains transparency so it glows when lit from behind. Please contact me with the colour(s) you would like, it can be literally almost anything you want!
