Fused Glass Decorative Pane

Individual panes of glass can be decorated with glass powders, granules, enamels and silver stain, which are fused permanently to the surface of the glass. Further decoration can be made by cutting back the colours in some areas to reveal the base glass underneath. Fundamentally, this is exactly the same set of techniques used in the manufacture of stained glass windows for centuries, it’s just as effective and vibrant today.

The technique can be used to create individual panels as shown below, or multiple smaller pieces can be combined with other coloured glass pieces and built together to make a leaded light, which could be used as a decoration, built into a window or even as a picture frame.

Prices would depend entirely upon the size and complexity of the piece required, but would start at a few tens of pounds for a small simple panel, to several hundreds for a sizeable leaded window.
